Montessorium: Intro to Words App Reviews

Super app for the kids

The bug fixed everything for me. Thanks Montessorium ! This app defines on how an iPad can be used as an educational platform.

Terrible app

This is probably the worst educational app i have ever downloaded for my child. Makes no sense, the sounds the letter make are not consistant..the child loses interest in seconds because of the poor design.. The child is confused right off the bat when it says pick and animal andnhalf the choices are not even animals..i feel ripped off for 4.99. This app should not even be in the app store.

brilliant

my son loves this, the voiceover is great and straightforward and the illustrations are lovely - i like to watch his mind work to figure out the words hes presented with!

Best One Yet!

I didnt even realize that Montessorium had put out another App until last week when I happened upon it. Of course, I got it immediately. I like this one even better than the first two, because I am enjoying it as an adult just as well as any child will. Looking forward to future Montessorium Apps!

Great new tool!

As a grandma very interested in fun educational tools, I am happy that I have downloaded this app along with the other two from Montessorium. At first we had a little trouble understanding how the Story Writing worked, but once we figured it out, it was really enjoyed. I think it would have been even better on an iPad instead of my iPhone--more area to work on. But all the images are colorful and entertaining to grandkids ages 3-7, even on the smaller iPhone screen. We really thought the moveable alphabet with numerous brightly colored images was a great program and easily understood by very young children, but still fun for older kids. Thanks, Montessorium for providing another lovely learning tool for my grandchildren.

Love this app!

My 3 and 5 year old both love this app for very different reasons. My 3 year old likes the story writing portion and working specifically with the actual images. She puts a bunch of images on the screen and then tells her story to me. My 5 year old goes right to the spelling portion and loves figuring out which letters she needs through the sounds when she is stuck on a word she does not know how to spell. All the different activities on one app make Alpha Writer a new favorite for us. Another GREAT app from Montessorium.

not thought through

The app is not thought through - they need to break the objects down into levels, three letter phonetic words, blends, then digraphs. The blends and digraphs should have the sounds together that make the specific sound like "oo" in book, or "er" in lobster, etc... having all the letters make the phonetic sounds can be confising when teaching blends and diagraphs. You dont phonetically sound out these non phonetic words. Lastly, I wish there was a self check option like the Montessori crosswords app so they can make sure they spelled a word correctly. On the "writer" section it would be nice to be able to click on the words once they are assembled and have the word read, not each individual sound. I feel like this app was not put together well. I am a 3-6 Montessori teacher with a 3 and 5 year old that attend the school and they did not enjoy this app. I feel that changes can be made to it so we can utilize it more as a learning tool and not just a silly game.

Perfect for our 4-year old

We have both Intro to Math and Letters and our daughter really enjoyed those, but ultimately needed something more. This brings it up a notch for her. While the other two were something she could do by herself without any instruction, this app facilitates how I teach her sounds and sight words and how the letters come together to make common words. Im no teacher, but I think having the ability to have something help you teach is great. Its an app that you can sit down with your child and have a great experience with.

Too limited

For spelling you must choose from a small number of pictures. Spelling is never actually checked. Nothing actually tells your child if they accomplished anything. It just keeps repeating letter sounds. You can drag any letters down. Scrolling across the entire alphabet to pick the letters is very annoying. On iPod storyboard is limited to about three short words, much too small.

Great app for Montessori kids

My 6 year old son is a Montessori kid and loves this app. He immediately recognized that this was the moveable alphabet and got straight to work! The vivid colors and clear voice are excellent and inviting. We hope that future versions will include more words to spell. Thanks for another well-designed educational tool. We hope there are more to come!

Terrible graphics on iPad

The games seems well put together but its definitely not optimized for the iPad. The graphics are so stretched out I dont even want to use it. Please fix!!!

Not compatible with iPad 2

There appears to be an incompatibility issue with iPad 2. The graphics are stretched and controls are not visible. Wait for fix on this. At least i hope there is a fix coming.

Not child friendly

Can you please make the letters and pictures show everything instead of scrolling to the side to find the letters and pictures. My child gets confused. And thetouch sensitivity is god aweful. Come on how many times should a child press to drag the letters down. Its not responsive. Not worth the money paid.

Banal.

The intro to letters app is amazing. This one is ... Not even in the same dimension let alone universe. Very poor. A mess. Confusing for my son. F

Love this app!

As a speech pathologist I can use this app for my nonverbal/minimally verbal clients to tell stories. They choose the objects to represent nouns and verbs then use the alphabet to write their story. It would be helpful if overlapping letters could blend their sounds into words for retelling the story.

Beautiful!

Alpha Writer is an exceptional app! I love everything they create! Perfect for the grandchildren!

Fun, Fantastic App for Young Learners

I love their approach to this app. Very well designed. Also, a lot of childrens apps can be too cartoony or flashy, which is unfortunate. This app has many fun and beautiful illustrations, but they serve an educational purpose and in a way that doesnt insult a childs intelligence. Plus, it is engaging! My niece has been playing with this app all week. She cycles through some of the spelling exercises then brings me the iPad so we can write a silly story together. Love it!

Great educational app for early reading skills

This app is perfect for my 6 year old who was finding it difficult to remember what sound each letter made. Great for kids who learn best by touching and feeling in addition to just seeing or hearing as kids have to move the letters into place to spell the words. Also have to mention great support - I was having a problem with the sound on this app (user error I might add!) and the support people responded to my email right away with a solution.

So disappointed.

I wish I could return this program. All of the consonants have vowel sound voiced at the end, as in /d-uh/. This makes blending the sounds back to make a word impossible. I wrote SED for "said". When I tried to quickly push the letters so it would blend and read it back to me, it said, "/s/ /e/ /d-uh/." An incorrect representation of the phonemes is not very helpful.

Nice app but...

Nice app but you REALLY need to split the alphabet at the top into two rows to eliminate the need to scroll back and forth!
