Montessorium: Intro to Words App Reviews

Crash

$5 and it crashes on startup :(. Fix it!

Has Potential

My twins like this app. Making a sentence everyday and then taking a picture of what they created. Would like to see more offered from this app for the cost. Only has short vowel sounds (what about the long vowel sounds too?) Like the style and layout for the most part, but this app has crashed on me a few times.

not worth the money

I am a Montessori trained teacher and I am very upset that I wasted my money on this app. I expected a learning program/game thats based on Montessori principles and would reinforce the use of the moveable alphabet at home. I cant find instructions for this app and there are no levels to follow any rule of progression. What you see on the screenshots is all you get. I am very disappointed.

Interesting app to help the child to be comfortable with writing.

This is a wonderful app to strengthen the phonetic learning in young children as well as for beginning readers/writers. The app has two different section; the Alpha and the Writer. In the Alpha Section, the app interacts with the child when it ask to find a specific object within the ones available. There are transportation, animals, clothing, body parts and more to pick from. Once the child has picked an item, he/she will hear the sound of it and then a voice will say the word. The child has to use the letters on the top of the screen to be able to write the word. For example, for the box the child would have to select the letter B, O, and X and drag them on the table. In the Writer section, the child will have the opportunity of practicing how to write short sentences for a story. Using the alphabet as well as images, the child is able to write little sentences like “the plane is fast”. In a way having the opportunity to apply the learning done in the first section of the app is wonderful. The child is learning and has fun at the same time. As he/she completes a little story, mom or dad can use the camera to save what the child has written in the camera roll on the device your are using. I think this app is a great introduction to phonetic as well as how to write little sentences. It doesn’t overwhelm the child with rules like capital letter and punctuation. However, the app is flexible to allow the child to include images in his sentences to make it more fun to learn at the same time. For us, we have used the app as a supplement after learning the phonics while homeschooling. My son enjoyed being able to write little sentences by himself has well. I would recommend this app for anyone who have a child in the ages of 3-5 years old (or older for kids who are struggling in learning how to write and spell).

Not enough...

I was expecting much more than this! Please update this app to make it worth 5 bucks! Right now it is a waste of money!

Looks like designed by the clueless

This app is aimless, pointless, and deeply flawed in design. Absolutely wasting time and money.

Not worthwhile.

I dont mind paying $5 for a really good learning app for my child but theres nothing special about this one compared to any other .99c app - wouldnt recommend it to others, pretty sure my son will bore of this in a few minutes and I just wasted my money.

Terrible

Waste of money.

Felix

A neat app that got my son interested in an instant. I was happy to see that kids are supposed to associate letters with their corresponding sounds and not to learn alphabet. The app is a lot better than ANY other program I have ever seen before. Suggestions 1. Repositioning letters would constitute another activity to help children stay motivated. 2. However the creators should prevent screen from switching to next pic/word when dragging a letter. 3. If the doggy barked when the word is composed... Or something more significant than that sound... But I may be wrong.

Fantastic!

Weve been waiting for this app to be released ever since our son was enamored with both the Numbers and Letters app by this developer. Once again, were in love! Highly engaging and adorable...such clean design and UI. The repetition of the sounds and interaction is really going to boost our child into spelling and reading. Yay!

Alpha Writer is Outstanding!

This is one of the most engaging apps that Ive seen. It takes learning to the next level. Highly recommend!

This app is a game changer.

I have watched my 20 month old daughter spend the past week working with this app and it is magical. For someone her age, unable to write, it is teaching her to create and tell stories. Where this may have occured in the past, through scribbles and scratches, she is now using images that allow us to create the story together. For an older child, it provides a platform for writing and spelling that is awe inspiring. I even watched a college senior play with it for over an hour because of the accessible interface and noteworthy design. I am new to the Montessori concepts, but this application is first class. **To the previous comment: If youre having trouble starting the app, restart your iPad. You probably have too many things running.

Will not start?

My daughter loves the other two apps, but this will not start. Ive been trying to redraft it now for the last hour.

No control of error

There is almost no control of error or it is buggy. I am hoping there are updates to this soon.

Thank you

This is a gorgeous app. Thank you for allowing kids to just enjoy creating stories and spelling words, without any bonus points, gold stars, extra credit, wacky sound effects, applause, gratuitous praise, or other silly distractions. We have all the Montessorium apps, and we look forward to each new release!

Excellent!

My 6 year old digs it!

Buggy

Worthless app until crash bugs are fixed!

Really compelling, minor critique

Art and sound are wonderful. The interface is easy. My four year old enjoys it. The only criticism I have is the positive reinforcement for spelling words is easy to miss. I found my child losing interest because of this. She doesnt know when shes right or wrong. Two issues: - When you spell a word correctly, it is possible to interrupt a playing audio by hitting the check mark again quickly and miss the audio confirmation that the word was spelled right. For kids using this in isolation, this is a problem because they dont get any feedback or miss it. - Even when you carefully wait on the check mark upon spelling the word correctly, the transition back to the screen of pictures is very similar to the incorrect case. I understand this may be part of the teaching method, but if the child doesnt get some more significant feedback, the smarter kids tend to find the experience unfulfilling. Having said that, my child frequently laughs at the creative sound effects when clicking on the pictures and the phonetics are instantly obvious to her.

Really?

I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with the Montessori methodology, so I was excited to get this app. i I downloaded for my little girl to practice her spelling and story-telling. First thing she looked for was the human character that related to her. I was stunned that the only people are male, and most of the images are things that typically resonate with boys, like methods of transportation, bugs and other creatures Are you kidding?

Just OK

With a reputation to uphold, this app does not live up to it. It is a good tool for sounding out letters and words. The story mode is just placing pictures on the screen and hearing those words. There is no real story template that is rewarding for the kids. With improvements this app could be a 5 star, no doubt.
